Though many people often mistake marketing with sales, they are in fact very different. The more theoretically based and wider scaled marketing has many differences from sales, which is more direct and persuasive. They do go hand in hand usually in making products or services a success. And both of them do involve the act of selling goods or service for money.
People who work in sales are called salespersons, brokers, agents, or sales managers. Depending on the field, these sales agents have different ways of fulfilling their duties. Real estate salespersons, for example, assist clients in buying or selling goods. Pharmaceutical salespersons need to know science and medical-related information to be able to sell their products to doctors and hospitals.
An expertise in the objects that they are selling is extremely vital for salespeople. If you are not familiar with the things you are selling, then you don't have any business selling it.
As indicated, there are various types of salespeople with different kinds of duties. The usual sales people that you see are called Sales brokers or seller agents. These are salespeople who represent and carry the name of their companies or employers and try to make a deals with their clients on certain products.
Transaction brokers are the ones who are neutral in a deal for fairness and are usually found in large transactions involving big money. The disclosed dual agent on the other hand is different in the sense that he or she represents both parties and moves to make the best deal for both.
There are also the sales managers whose job is to actually implement sales strategies and other management techniques. They help coordinate the sales and marketing departments of their company, as well as manage the performance of the salespersons under them.
