Are Children Happy at your Restaurant?

By Patricia Farnham

Are children happy at your restaurant? You certainly want to do your best to make sure that they are taken care of. This fact can determine if their parents will be dropping in or not when the entire family is going out to eat. Keeping children happy at your restaurant will help ensure even though people in there without children are going to be happy as well. It can be hard to relax and enjoy a meal when children are fussing.

The majority of restaurants offer both booths and tables. You don't have to but it is strongly encouraged. Many people will have a preference as to which one they sit in. You will find individuals with small children often request a booth. Always make sure you ask what they want instead of just assigning them one or the other. It is easier to prevent children from falling and to keep them seated.

You should have more than just a couple of high chairs on hand. During peak business hours you may find you run short on them. This can make enjoying a meal hard on a parent. Young children tend to squirm and get their hands into things on the table. Help them to relax and make the experience a pleasant on. Always make sure you have high chairs that are safe to use as well.

For many children, one of the hardest parts of being in a restaurant is waiting for their food. This is when they tend to become the most active. If you can offer them a very light food item to get them started it can take the edge off of it. Take to the parents to see if this is something they may be able to benefit from or not.

Many children can be easily entertained by games on the table. There are many different ones you can offer them. Games with the pegs where you have to jump each one and try to get down to as few as possible are great. You can offer a set of links too that they can connect and build things with.

Children can easily be excited by a coloring book or a small page of games. Make sure you have some crayons and pencils to hand out as well. They will be so involved in these activities that they won't mind waiting for their food to arrive. Parents will be able to relax as well so everyone have a nice meal together.

Parents know better than anyone else what is going to keep their children entertained for a meal. This is why they may bring in some things from home. They don't want to deal with a restless child while they are dining out. It can be embarrassing when your two year old is throwing a temper tantrum in a restaurant.

Make sure your restaurant is appealing to those with children. This will bring plenty more business your way. It is understandable that not every type of restaurant is appropriate to bring children into. Yet if you are leaning in that direction then you definitely want to be as accommodating as possible.
