Domain Investing - Investments That Pay Dividends (Part 2)

By Smash Masterson

Obviously, you know what they are looking for based on the keyword they are typing: Cell Phones and cell phone information. And listen up bucko, those visitors will type in CellPhones.com day in and day out, whether you advertise the site or not, just so long as you pay the $10/year registration fee.

* If you have a crappy page, they still come. * If you insult them with pop-ups and banners, they still come * If you have poor navigation, they still come. * If your prices are sky-high, they still come. * If your selection is limited, they still come. ... all because of your domain! I'm not suggesting you do any of those things, I'm just sayin;)

Direct Navigation occurs when somebody types in the dot com site directly into the search box and this type in traffic accounts for half of all internet traffic. Obviously most people are typing in the search engine names like Google, but even so 20% are not. Earlier on in the year I was at a seminar in Las Vegas and we dealt we the influence of user habits on traffic and I really learned just how important this new found knowledge was going to make me a whole load of money.

Get this - 1) Searches done in the address bar add up to a staggering 31% of every single search. 2) A moderate 28% of address look ups are carried out in the search bar. People just have no idea on how to use the dam internet, but that allows us Domainers to reap the benefits. Did you know why "yahoo.com heads the searched terms list? I wonder why.

So what's CellPhones.com worth anyway? About 125,000 hot responsive visitors a month! And what are they worth, pray tell? Well, if you park the page and get paid on click revenue, it might be worth $15,000 - $30,000 a month... just based on type-in traffic. If you were offsetting the cost of advertising for an affiliate promotion, a click for a term like "cell phones" might go for buck or so, so you'd come out ahead by over six figures per month.

Imagine that you also owned cell phone store. You would probably hit the jackpot as a name like cellphones.com could probably increase sales by 2 or 3 million dollars every month and it's all down to domain credibility, so a domain like cellphones.com would probably reach a seven figure number. The underlying fact is that domain names should always be part of a very well structured business plan. Investment-grade keyword domains are the actual basis for this e-commerce powerhouse which pays dividends and gives income up until you make the decision to sell your site.
