Tile as the Superman of Floors

By Rick Amorey

Superheroes always have some form of weakness. With superpowers to spare, Superman may be indestructible, but kryptonite drains his powers until he's as weak as a kitten. Slightly less popular is the Green Lantern's vulnerability to the color yellow. His ring is powerless against this particular color.

On a vastly different topic, there are many types of flooring materials that are superpowers in terms of elegance. Foremost among them is the magnificent finish provided by tiled floors; but like the superheroes mentioned, tile has a weakness as well.

You will need to put grout in your home and office, if you want to put tiles on these particular places. Grout acts as a bonding agent, and this cement-like material is poured onto the floor and between the tiles after the tiles are laid. So, why is it considered a weakness of tiles, if it is as tough as cement?

There are a lot of extremely durable tile materials out in the market these days, but unlike these, grout suffers from one problem - the fact that it is of porous material. Grout has a lot of tiny holes that lets dirt, grime, dust and liquid seep inside and erodes the material from the inside out. When grout is destroyed, tiles are up next.

So how do we fight such a calamity from occurring? With Superman, his best solution from kryptonite is to stay away from it as much as possible. A similar approach can be used for grout. Keep the things that could destroy it away, and the way to do it is to have it cleaned occasionally.

Of course, you could also clean it yourself, but why go through all the trouble? It's a difficult task to clean grout, and you will only be able to do a mediocre job at your best. Contact Ricmond Tile and Grout Cleaners instead, as these guys will be able to give you reassurance and you need not fear kryptonite any more. - 2364
